Our Story

Sky Above, Soil Below

Aether is the old word for the luminous upper air — the substance the ancients believed filled the heavens. Root is exactly what it sounds like: the part that holds, feeds, and remembers.

We named this house for both, because that is where every good reading lives — one foot in the stars, one in the dirt. Our decks are made to be handled, packed, shuffled at kitchen tables and trailheads and hotel windowsills. They ask practical questions in a mystical voice: Where should you go? What do you need when you get there? What are you carrying that you could set down?

The Collection

The Reset Travel Animal Oracle is our first: forty-four animal companions, each oversized card holding its creature's medicine, a travel signal, a reset ritual, a shadow signal, and a journal prompt. It was made for one purpose — helping you choose the rest you actually need, not the rest you think you should want.

The Celestial Tarot is its sister deck, a full tarot written in the language of the night sky. Its artwork is complete and being prepared for print — reserve a copy and follow @aetherandroot for the reveal.

The Reset Key is the practical one: twenty-four cards made with our sister brand ResetAway — eight for Before you book, eight for During, eight for After you return.

The House & Its Kin

Aether & Root is the parent house of ResetAway, our astro-travel site. The two share one belief: that the right journey, taken at the right moment, can reset a life. The cards tell you when. ResetAway helps you choose where.

The Hands Behind the House

One artist. Every card.

Aether & Root is not a studio of many hands. Every card in this house — all seventy‑eight of the Celestial Tarot, all forty‑four of the Animal Oracle, all twenty‑four Reset Keys — was imagined and created by one person: Erica Day, our founder.

Erica Day, the artist behind Aether & Root
Erica — one hundred and forty‑six cards, one pair of hands.

The decks were made during the quietest year of her life. While her world grew small, she chose — card by card — to spend the silence on love and hope instead of heartache. What you shuffle is what that choice looks like: one hundred and forty‑six original works, each with one foot in the sky and one in the soil.

Erica is also the person behind our sister brand ResetAway, and the one who answers when you write to either house. Her full story — the year, the why, the woman — lives there: the person behind the map.
